Creating a new visual platform for a leading Scottish university

EXPLORING THE BRIEF
Heriot-Watt university approached The Roundhouse with the aim of producing a student recruitment campaign across all their international campuses. The project quickly evolved through discussions into a branding project with associated focus on what made Heriot-Watt unique and why. Through a well orchestrated process we interviewed a wide number of stakeholders to determine the essence of the university’s ethos, ambition and purpose.

DEFINING THE DIFFERENCE
This exercise produced the phrase “Leaders in Ideas and Solutions” which we formalised across all communication materials. At the same time we conducted a visual audit of the university and recommended modernising both identity and brand personality.

CREATING THE NEW BRAND PLATFORM
Diversity of opportunity was conveyed through student portraits illustrating aspirations as collages inside their heads. These were then combined with the line “See the world, then change it” as a call to action. We designed fresh prospectuses, banners and new university reception in collaboration with interior designers to project its refreshed positioning with confidence.
